CLOAK/3.7v
Trishna had been filling notebooks with pictures of lake spirits, witches, Indian guides. Once her
brother left home, she started drawing her own comic book, about a character called Drop.
|
Drop is the sacrificial girl whose blood if shed into the sea will cleanse all the polluted waters of
the earth. A rogue FBI agent abducts her to suit his action morality and then makes himself feel
clean by delaying the motel room seduction. |
The dreary panic-laced exercise in flight and frustration which ensues, Drop's death by crossfire
in the shallows of an isolated pondfor two years Trishna drew the story scene by scene. Gradually the dialogue dissolved into gesture and whole pages filled with
variations on a single frame. Then one day she began sculpting the story from pine branches and broken logs,
old sheets, tires and wiringsoon it filled the site of the never-built vacation home nearby.
|
Trishna was determined to follow her brother to
the state college of art, and then to surpass him there, which she did, moving to the city and
commanding all the honors in her first two years of classes. |
On the shores of Lake Kenoma, the waves of local
refugee children who have escaped with their mothers to the refitted bungalows, when they go exploring in the unfamiliar forest, keep discovering
her work.
